Sue Salas
RMN, RGN, BSc (Hons), MSc, MSc
Sue is a Senior Consultant with Mental Health Strategies and is based in London. Sue is a qualified general and mental health nurse and maintains live registration. She has a BSc (Hons) Psychology and an MSc Occupational Psychology both from Birkbeck College, University of London. She also has an MSc Culture & Mental Health from University College London. Prior to joining us five years ago she was a Service Manager at Camden & Islington Mental Health & Social Care Trust, London, where she managed a range of inpatient wards and community mental health teams. She leads our “Equality & Diversity” workstream.
Sue has several years experience as a Senior Nurse in mental health and as a manager in both the NHS and in the private sector. She has worked in a clinical role and also in a managerial role in a number of mental health specialities. Sue is interested in making links between national policies, good practice guidance, research evidence and translating this into reality in clinical and managerial practice. Sue is also an experienced researcher.
Sue recent work includes:
• Acting as a Senior Nurse Advisor in Mental Health on Serious Incident Inquiries
• Conducting an independent review of the role, function and number of CMHTs in Kingston and also in Wandsworth
• Conducting a review of A&E Liaison Services
• Developing a Mental Health Care of Older People's Strategy for two PCTs
• Developing a Dual Diagnosis Strategy
• Undertaking a review of an Acute Care Pathway
• Conducting a Mental Health Needs Assessment of foreign national prisoners at HMP Canterbury
• Conducting a Community Needs Assessment with hard to reach groups focusing on ascertaining their views on housing, employment, education, leisure and access to mental health services
• Undertaking a review of Alcohol Services
• Supporting a Mental Health Trust to devise a Single Equality Scheme
• Conducting a review of specialist Mental Health Services
• Creating, appointing and supervising the UK's only Cross cultural Nurse on a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
• Conducting a baseline review of the extent to which Bedford District Care Trust is meeting the Delivering Race Equality vision for 2010
• Creating "Equality & Diversity Champions" in Cumbria Partnership NHS Trust
Outside of work, Sue spends as much time as possible with her family and entertaining friends. She also likes to make the most of living in London.
